QWS3270 Secure Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) & Problem Determination
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
If I have problems with the install, or need additional information who should I contact?
Contact your normal Deere helpdesk.
If I am installing this on a Deere owned machine, which of the install options should I use?
Neither. You should logon to the JDSRS webpage, search for QWS Secure and request the software from there.
If I have an older version of QWS3270 Secure than stated on the install page, how do I upgrade to the current version?
You can download the QWS3270 4.4.4 version HERE. It should install over your current version and keep all customizations you have done up to this point.
If I have an older version of QWS3270 Secure than stated on the install page, how do I upgrade to the current version?
You can download the QWS3270 4.8.5 version HERE. It should install over your current version and keep all customizations you have done up to this point.
Do I need to logon to JDRave or DeereVPN to use my QWS client?
No. The client is designed to use an SSL/TLS secure session over your normal internet connection and does not require you to logon to the Deere network first.
What printers are supported for QWS3287 print?
Printers must meet the following criteria to be officially supported:
- Laser printer
- PCL capable
- Parallel cable attached
Some customers have successfully utilized USB and/or network attached laser printers but due to the multitude of driver and individual network variability issues affecting print,
we do not recommend or support those setups. Inkjet printers of any kind are rarely successful and not supported in any form.

Problem Determination
- My external site cannot connect to ssltn3270.deere.com or sslprint.deere.com
- If some users at the site are having problems while others are working then it usually means that the users who cannot connect have
their QWS sessions configured incorrectly.
- If an entire external site cannot connect to ssltn3270.deere.com or sslprint.deere.com then it may mean that the site has some type of firewall or proxy blocking their connections to Deere.
External sites need to allow the following IPs and ports to pass through their firewalls in order to connect:
- ssltn3270.deere.com
- 204.54.36.81 port 23
- 164.121.252.128 port 23
- sslprint.deere.com
- 204.54.36.83 port 23
- 164.121.254.178 port 23
If the site is configured properly to allow traffic to pass through to Deere and you are still not able to connect to ssltn3270.deere.com, contact your Deere
supplier representative or the Deere enterprise support helpdesk for additional assistance.

To cancel the file transfer click cancel then wait 1 minute for the timeout to occur

- After upgrading from 3.8.3 to 4.4.4 the not sign (¬) and the hatchek () no longer work as expected.
In the 3.8.3 version of QWS, some users grew accustom to inserting a not sign (¬) into their datasets by holding the Shift
key and pressing the number 6 key. While represented as a hatchek () on the screen, it was actually inserting a HEX 5F
into the dataset which is interpreted as not sign (¬).
In the 4.4.4 version of QWS, this display issue has been resolved and there are key combinations for each individual symbol that both display
correctly and insert the correct HEX characters into the dataset you are editing. The key combinations are as follows in QWS 4.4.4:
Shift - 6 results in a HEX B0 being entered into the dataset and a hatchek () displayed on the screen
Ctrl - 6 results in a HEX 5F being enetred into the dataset and a not sign (¬) displayed on the screen
- After upgrading from 3.8.3 to 4.4.4 the key to which I had assigned the New Line command no longer works when I hold it down.
In the 4.4.4 version of QWS Secure, the vendor made a change to their code to recognize the New Line command on the release of the key instead
of the depress of the key. That code change required that the assigned key be pressed and released every time the command was to be executed.
Since that time, they have received feedback from customers that indicated they would like it to function in the old manner.
All future versions of QWS Secure to which we upgrade will include code changes that make the New Line command fuction as in the past.
Until another upgrade occurs, 4.4.4 users have a few options to help them move around the screen in a fashion similar but not exactly like
the New Line command.
1) The down arrow key is able to be pressed down and held to advance down the screen without hitting enter like the New Line command.
While the arrow key does not automatically bounce to a different column left and right like a New Line command does
if necessary, it does allow you to progress down the screen with a held key.
2) You can also place the cursor in a different location on the screen with your mouse and single left click to place your cursor at the new location.
- My black & white printer prints some colors so light I can't see them when I hit Print Screen.

- You can print two screens per page when you click print screen.

On the printer session, click on Options / Host Settings. Set the Keepalive Value to 1 minute.
- Printer Settings - Explanation of options in the QWS3287 Printer session.
You modify these options by clicking on Options / Printer Settings.
- Scale to fit page
You can use this setting to make more than 80 columns fit on the page.
This setting is not compatible with AFP print.

You MUST use this setting if you are sending AFP print from the host to this printer.
- Add a blank page at end.
You can uncheck this setting to save paper.
